1-Active Ingredient:
-Lactulose
-Galactose
-Lactose

2-Concentration:
Lactulose 667 gm/ L

3-Dosage form:
Syrup

4-Indication:
-Constipation
-Portal systemic encephalopathy (P.S.E)
-samonellosis

5-Side effect:
-No serious side effects
-Flatulence (disappears spontaneously or with adjustment of dose)

6-Contraindication:
No contraindications are known

7-Precautions:
-The syrup contains small amounts of galactose and lactose this should be taken in consideration when treating diabetic patients and patients on galactose-free diet.
-the dosage in the treatment of pre comma hepaticum is usually much higher and may pose a problem for diabetics.

8-Dose:
-Constipation:
*It varies according to the individual response
*starting dose:
Adults: 15 - 45 ml per day
Children 7 - 14 years: 15 ml per day
Children 1 - 6 years: 5 - 10 ml per day
Infants: 5 ml per day
*Maintenance dose:
Adults: 10 - 25 ml per day
Children 7 – 14 years: 10 ml per day
Children 1 – 6 years: 5 – 10 ml per day
Infants: 5 ml per day

-Portal systemic encephalopathy (P.S.E)
*starting dose: 30 – 35 ml three times daily
* Maintenance dose has to be adjusted to the individual response

-samonellosis
*First cycle of treatment (10 – 12 days): 15 ml three times daily.
*Second cycle of treatment (10 – 12 days): after a non treatment period of 7 days 15 ml five times daily.
*Third cycle of treatment if necessary: after having 7 days without treatment should be 30 ml three times daily.

-Duphalac may if necessary be diluted with water or fruit juice, etc.
